Pupil Premium

Pupil Premium is additional funding that is available to maintained and non-maintained schools.  It is based on the number of children who are entitled to statutory free school meals or have been entitled over the previous six years.  It also includes those children in care who have been continuously looked after for more than six months.

Disadvantaged children may experience a range of potential barriers which mean that they may make slower progress than other children both at Kelvedon Hatch Community Primary School and nationally.  We aim to enable every child at our school to make outstanding progress from their starting points through consistently high quality teaching and high expectations and standards alongside a curriculum that caters for the individual needs of children in order to remove identified barriers.

In addition to high quality teaching, our use of the Pupil Premium grant provides additional support throughout the school, such as learning support staff in classrooms as well as support for children to close the attainment gap, especially in Mathematics and English.  Pupil Premium funding is also used to provide disadvantaged children with access to extra curricular opportunities.

The impact of our Pupil Premium expenditure is reviewed throughout the academic year and a new strategy document is published on our school website by 31 December each year.  It is a requirement of the Pupil Premium Grant that we identify and make public details about how this money is spend and the impact that this has on outcomes for children.  It is important to recognise that Pupil Premium funding is not the only income that we utilise to achieve this aim.

In the 2023-24 academic year, 23.5% of the children at Kelvedon Hatch Community Primary School are eligible for Pupil Premium.  The total amount we project to receive in the 2023-24 academic year is £58,200, plus £5,510 Recovery Premium.

To be eligible, parents/carers must usually be in receipt of one of the following:

• Income Support or income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
• Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
• Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
• The guaranteed element of Pension Credit
• Child Tax Credit (provided you’re not also entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual gross income of no more than £16,190)
• Working Tax Credit run-on - paid for 4 weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit
• Universal Credit - if you apply on or after 1 April 2018 your household income must be less than £7,400 a year (after tax and not including any benefits you get)

All parents/carers are asked about their eligibility for Pupil Premium when their child starts at Kelvedon Hatch Community Primary School.  Parents/carers are asked to keep the school informed if their circumstances change.
