SMSC and British Values

In education, we are required to promote so called 'British Values'.  These, of course, are not unique to Britain so are promoted in our school as 'Human Values' that are reflected in the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC).  As a Lighthouse Relief Ambassador School (Lighthouse Relief are a refugee charity based in Lesvos, Greece) and as an aspiring UNICEF Rights Respecting School, we passionately advocate children's rights; we instill in children a social responsibility to share these rights and to support those children who are denied access to UNCRC, through raising money for Lighthouse Relief and UNICEF.

Social responsibility is central to who we are at KHCPS as this develops us as compassionate, respectful and responsible human beings.

Members of the school council asked their peers how we could promote the UN Convention of the Rights of the Child, several children wanted to write a song and make a music video and Year 5 took up the challenge!

Many thanks to Steve Martin (parent extraordinaire) for creating the video.

We now have an Eco Council who have successfully achieved are working towards achieving the status of 'Eco School'.  As part of this process, the children recently took part in the Essex Eco Race.

We are currently working towards becoming a Unicef Rights Respecting School.  As part of the work we are doing, we invited Sir Eric Pickles MP to speak to us about the democratic process.
